Supermarket, apartments, café and more could be on the way for a Waterford town

A supermarket, apartments, and a café could be on the way for a town in Waterford.

A planning application has been submitted for the development at the former Glanbia site in Dungarvan on February 5th.

Should permission be granted, it will consist of a mixed-use space including two two-storey buildings on Richard A. Walsh Street.

There will be a convenience store and a retail store, which is suspected to be a Tesco. 

Shane Houlihan, the applicant, applied for permission to put a Tesco on the site in 2023, but it was refused, according to WLR. 

The current application does not name a specific supermarket, but the planning documents reference Tesco and note that Dungarvan is the only big urban area in Waterford without one.

A café is also being proposed along with an off-license area.

There would be two entrance lobbies to the building, with four apartments on the first flooor.

Three would be two-bedroom apartments and the fourth would be a three-bed. 

A management suite would also be on the first floor.

The second building is being proposed as being split into two units.

Both would be used as retail space.

The development will also provide a car park with 154 spaces and bicycle parking.

The application for the proposed development was deemed as incomplete by Waterford City and County Council, therefore the applicant must submit more information before a decision can be made.
