Local GAA club in Waterford lodges proposal for new community centre and sports hub

Waterford City and County Council has received a planning application for the construction of a new community centre and sports hub at Newtown/Ballydurn GAA Club

Chairman of Newtown/Ballydurn GAA Club, James Dunphy, submitted the application on behalf of the club which proposes the construction of a local community centre and sports hub at the site of the existing clubhouse in Carigeen, Newtown, Kilmacthomas. 

Included in these works are an open plan multi-purpose function room, kitchenette, store, gym and viewing gallery which will overlook the pitch. Other works listed include alterations to the bathroom facilities in the existing clubhouse building and the construction of a communal entrance linking the proposed buildings.

The proposal also details the reconfiguration of the existing carpark layout as well as the development of an overspill carpark which will be accessible by a pedestrian walkway from the existing carpark. 

The plans also include details on the construction of a new ball wall with perimeter fencing with an all-weather astro turf infill associated area and flood lighting. Other associated site works are also listed.

Waterford City and County Council are due to make their decision by 6 August 2025.
