The Waterford first responders group has taken initiative this Christmas season, announcing their shoebox appeal for the elderly.
A spokesperson for the group took to social media and said, "This Christmas, many older people in Waterford will feel lonely or isolated. Help put a smile on their face by donating to our shoebox appeal,"
"Remember, it doesn't have to be a lot, but it will mean the world to someone this Christmas," they added.
The idea behind the appeal is touching, as the first responders wants to ensure no one is lonely this season, and that everyone receives a gift to open on Christmas day.
They commented that no-one will be "left out or forgotten about."
The group of volunteers are suggesting presents along the lines of hats, socks, puzzle books, tea or coffee, chocolate bars or biscuits, and colouring books and markers, however, anything at all is appreciated.
The First Steps Creche and Pre-school, located in Ballybeg, is one of the drop off points where you can deliver your shoebox appeal to.
The grounds are open Monday to Friday from 8:15am to 5:15pm.

In a post to Facebook, they said, "A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far to our Christmas box appeal for the elderly! We're still collecting shoeboxes and are delighted to let you know the deadline has been extended to this Friday, 13th December,
"Let's spread some festive cheer together. Your generosity makes all the difference!" they added.
The Waterford Centre of Music is also teaming up with the responders for this very worthy cause and serving as a drop-off point for the gifts also.
They are located in the Tycor Business Centre and are open Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 6:30pm.
The last day you can drop off some gifts, or a shoebox appeal, is Wednesday, December 18.
The first responders are active on their Facebook page, updating it nearly daily as to when and where people can drop off their appeals.
In a status posted to Facebook last week, the responders urged people to keep the shoeboxes coming as "we have at least 50 elderly people in need of presents at Christmas."
You can keep up with the appeal and learn more here.
