Students prepare to explore their future as SETU hosts open day at Waterford campus

Pictured at last year’s open day were students from Presentation Secondary School in Waterford city and Blackwater Community School in Lismore, Co Waterford.

Excitement is  building ahead of South East Technological University’s Autumn schools open day which takes place this coming Friday at the Cork Road campus in Waterford.

School students from across the region and beyond will descend on the county to experience the facilities and programmes on offer at SETU.

This event is aimed at helping senior cycle students considering an undergraduate course for September 2025, and will give leaving certificate students a glimpse into university life.

While there are large groups of school students and their teachers attending, individual students, along with their guardians, are more than welcome to come along and explore what the university has to offer.

There are currently over 140 CAO courses offered at SETU, across a wide range of disciplines including business, engineering, architecture, sports, nursing, and more.

On the day, there will be presentations on all CAO courses, as well as the opportunity to talk to lecturers and current students on each programme.

It is the perfect place to get answers to those burning questions in relation to course content, career opportunities and campus life.

Commenting ahead of the open day, Dr Derek O’Byrne, Vice President of Academic Affairs at SETU said he is looking forward to welcoming everyone to the open day.

He said: “Our ‘right student, right programme’ ethos is all about ensuring students find the best fit for their future. We want each student who joins us to feel confident that they’ve chosen a course and career path that aligns with their goals and passions, rather than simply following friends or popular trends. That’s why in-person events are so valuable. They give students the chance to meet future lecturers, ask important questions, explore our facilities, and envision themselves here for the next four years."

Jess Lawton, SETU's Marketing & Outreach Officer wants students to know that making a well-informed decision about their future is extremely important.  “SETU is here to support students every step of the way. Come along to our Autumn Schools' Open Day to see what we have to offer and get answers to all your questions. Our aim is for students to walk away feeling confident, informed, and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.”

SETU’s Autumn Schools Open Day 2024 takes place from 10am to 2pm.
