The family of a garda who received a bravery award nearly one hundred years ago have been presented with the Garda Centenary Medal in honour of his service to the state.
The late Garda Denis O’Sullivan, who received a bravery award in 1925, was stationed at Tramore garda station in County Waterford from 1935 to 1948.

Garda O’Sullivan’s daughter Olive and his grandson Brian, who himself is a serving member of An Garda Síochána were presented with the Centenary Medal by Inspector Denis Murphy and Sergeant Edwin Flynn.
The presentation took place at Tramore Garda Station.
In 2022, An Garda Síochána marked the centenary of its foundation and as part of the commemorations, a special medal was presented to all serving and retired gardai who had served during the first 100 years of the force.
Commemorative medals have also been presented to the families of former gardai (serving and retired) who died before the centenary commemorations began.
