SETU issues advice to Waterford students as CAO offers approach

Leaving Cert students across Co Waterford will receive their first round CAO offers this Wednesday, August 30 at 2pm.

It's been a busy week full of nerves and excitement for local students following the release of state-exam results last Wednesday. Attention now turns to CAO offers, picking the right course and booking accommodation for those who wish to advance to third-level education.

In the South-East, many Waterford students will opt to take their next educational steps at SETU Waterford or Carlow and as the race to book a place to stay heats up, the Carlow campus has issued advice to potential students:

"All information regarding finding student accommodation in the Carlow area is listed on South East Technological University’s (SETU), SETUStudentPad.ie. Here, students will find a list of rooms and properties available for rent. Additionally, the Students Union at SETU in Carlow hosts a Facebook group called 'Student House Share Carlow', where students can find further room listings that may be suitable. We encourage students to be mindful when searching for accommodation," Helena Fitzgerald, Head of Learner Support and Student Services at SETU in Carlow said.

The third-level institute also offered some potential 'red flag' warnings to potential buyers: When a landlord is unavailable to meet in person, requests money to be paid upfront prior to signing a lease, or when a student is asked to pay money via any method other than by bank transfer, the college recommends "taking caution and seeking out further information from the potential landlord before proceeding," she concluded.
