Irish Cancer Society's ‘Your Health Matters’ roadshow comes to Waterford
Members of the public are invited to come along and speak with specialist cancer nurses, to ask any questions they may have, and seek support and advice.
The Irish Cancer Society's ‘Your Health Matters’ roadshow is coming to City Square Shopping Centre, Waterford, from 9am-6pm on Wednesday November 6, and Thursday November 7.
Members of the public are invited to come along and speak with specialist cancer nurses, to ask any questions they may have, and seek support and advice.
The event is completely free of charge and is a walk-in service only, no pre-booking is required.
Also available at the roadshow are free blood pressure checks, body mass index and carbon monoxide readings, and information on cancer prevention, screening, and ways to help spot the early signs of cancer.
A referral for a GP can also be arranged where further help is required. Early detection and diagnosis of cancer is essential to improve health outcomes.
When cancer is diagnosed early, it can improve the quality of life of those living with it, increase survival and reduce the severity of treatment.
Many people find it difficult to attend GP visits, with some not going at all, even when they are experiencing potential cancer symptoms.
The ‘Your Health Matters’ roadshow initiative seeks to change this by promoting positive lifestyle changes, increasing awareness of cancer symptoms, and improving medical care-seeking behaviour for the early signs of cancer.
In 2023, the roadshow travelled to 28 different locations around the country and to date, over 42,200 people have learned about the importance of early detection, with almost 3,600 people having received health checks at this roadshow.
