There are 19 people on trolleys and the ward at University Hospital Waterford on Wednesday (July 18), according to the latest trolley and ward watch figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
The nationwide figure is 395, an increase of 32% on the same day last year when there were 300 patients on trolleys.
The hospitals with the highest numbers on Wednesday are University Hospital Limerick (54), Cork University Hospital (39) and
University Hospital Galway (36).
Other figures for Wednesday include South Tipperary General Hospital (7), Wexford General Hospital (12) and Kilkenny's St Luke's Hospital (28).
