Waterford people set to 'Take the Plunge' and brave freezing water for Focus Ireland

People across Waterford are invited to brave the cold waters and ‘Take the Plunge’ for Focus Ireland later this month.

Focus Ireland’s annual ‘Take the Plunge’ event will return to Tramore Beach, Co Waterford on Sunday, November 24 with all funds raised directly supporting Focus Ireland’s work to combat homelessness.

For those unable to join the main event sites, Focus Ireland encourages participants to “Choose Your Own Location” and take the plunge at a local beach or swimming spot. Each swim will help raise vital funds to support the organisation’s ongoing efforts to provide resources and aid to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

To add warmth to the experience, ‘Take the Plunge’ sponsor ‘Cully & Sully’ will provide delicious hot soup and swim hats to all registered swimmers across each event location. Cully & Sully’s support will help make the event a memorable one for participants, who’ll receive a hearty post-swim treat for their commitment to the cause.

Northwest Regional Fundraiser Monica McElhinney shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying, “Take the Plunge is a powerful way for communities to come together, support each other, and raise awareness about the urgent issue of homelessness in Ireland.

“Every participant makes a real difference, helping us deliver life-changing services for people who need it most. Join us, brave the cold, and make waves for change.”

Focus Ireland is driven by the belief that homelessness is wrong and that every individual has a right to a safe, stable place to call home. This year’s event is especially critical, as over 14,760 people, including 4,561 children, are currently experiencing homelessness in Ireland.
