Waterford has been revealed as one of the top counties for solar energy, as it gets so much sunlight.
Energia has analysed all 26 counties in ROI to 'shed light' on which are the top places in the country for optimal solar energy.
Waterford came in second as Ireland's best location for solar panel installation, an option which homeowners should consider if they want to reduce energy consumption and better their carbon footprint.
The top five counties in Ireland with the highest average number of sunlight hours include:
Wexford
Waterford
Wicklow
Cork
Clare
Waterford takes second place with an impressive annual total of 1349.88 sunlight hours.
The sunniest months in Waterford are February and March, making it a promising location for renewable energy enthusiasts. But even during the rainy days, the solar panels continue to work effectively, ensuring consistent energy production.
Kerry has the least amount of sunshine in the republic, only receiving 1231.68 hours of sunlight per year.
Robert Stringer from Energia’s solar team, said: “Electricity generated by the solar PV systems produce less carbon emissions per unit of electricity than electricity imported from the grid.
“Plus, electricity generated by your solar PV system can be exported back to the grid and you will receive a payment for each unit exported. In addition, a solar PV system adds value to your home, as well as improving the BER rating. A higher BER opens up access to lower-cost green financing for mortgages and home loans.”
