The Prom in Tramore and a number of location around Waterford will remain open after Storm Babet turned out to be less severe than expected.

An evaluation of the current weather conditions and the anticipated conditions for the next few hours has taken place, following a meeting of the Waterford City and County Council’s severe weather management team in the afternoon.

Following this, Waterford City and County Council has made the decision not the to close the Prom in Tramore or the Davitt’s Quay Carpark, The Look Out, Castle Street Carpark and The Pond in Dungarvan.

Earlier on Tuesday, the public was advised that Storm Babet will bring spells of heavy rain and blustery east to southeast winds at times. The Met Éireann warning is valid until 1pm tomorrow, Wednesday, October 18th.

Fergus Galvin, Director of Services with Waterford City and County Council urged the public to exercise caution.

"With the possibility of blustery winds and heavy rainfall, driving conditions will be difficult, as there is the risk of localised flooding, fallen branches and poor visibility, all which will make journeys hazardous," he said.
