Waterford legend to feature alongside royalty in annual Hurling for Cancer charity match

Waterford soccer legend Stephen Hunt will reach for his hurley next week as he lines out alongside some of the biggest names in GAA, racing, and sport for the 2025 Hurling for Cancer Research charity clash.

The former Republic of Ireland international will be part of an all-star panel taking to Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow this Monday, August 18, in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

The match, now in its 14th year, is organised by trainer Jim Bolger and champion jockey Davy Russell, and has already raised more than €1.66 million for cancer research.

Hunt will join the likes of hurling greats TJ Reid, Patrick Horgan, Jake Morris, Noel McGrath and Lee Chin, as well as a glittering supporting cast of sports stars and celebrities.

The game will see "Jim Bolger's Stars" go up against "Davy Russell's Best" in what promises to be a night of high skill and plenty of laughs – all for a worthy cause.

Hurling for Cancer Research founder, Jim Bolger, said: "This year's match promises incredible skill, fierce competition and plenty of entertainment – with a line-up to rival any All-Ireland final.

"We are especially grateful to our sponsor Centra, to Carlow GAA, the Carlow County Board, and everyone at Netwatch Cullen Park for making Hurling for Cancer Research possible.

"We are also very excited to have TG4 broadcast Hurling for Cancer Research again, thanks to the generous support of Fogarty Fenwick and their crew, who like so many, are giving their services and time freely for such a worthy cause."

Gates open at 5pm, with pre-match entertainment before throw-in at 7:30pm. TG4 will broadcast the action free-to-air from 7:15pm, helping to boost donations.

Tickets are €10 for adults and €5 for children, available online at www.hurlingforcancer.ie or from selected Centra and SuperValu stores. All proceeds go directly to life-saving cancer research.
