Frustration in Waterford over continued illegal dumping in scenic rural area

The incidents have been reported to Waterford City and County Council
A Waterford councillor has expressed frustration over continued illegal dumping in a scenic rural area.
Sinn Féin councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy raised concerns over dumping on rural roads around Cappoquin after another number of recent incidents.
The latest rubbish, photographed at a number of locations in the Cappoquin area, has now been logged with Waterford City and County Council’s Environment Section for attention.
Cllr Mulcahy said the continued dumping is frustrating for local residents and places an unnecessary burden on council resources.
He stated: “Another weekend and unfortunately, it is another load of rubbish that has to be logged for our Environment Section to go out and collect.
“All of these latest incidents are from around the Cappoquin area. Our council crews should not have to spend their time driving around rural roads picking up after people who simply cannot be bothered disposing of their rubbish properly.
“Every time this happens, council staff and resources have to be diverted to clean it up. That is time and money which could be much better spent elsewhere in our communities.”
Cllr Mulcahy said he has repeatedly reported incidents of illegal dumping across West Waterford and will continue to do so whenever they are brought to his attention.
“We live in a beautiful part of the country and the vast majority of people take great pride in their local area.
“It is extremely disappointing that the actions of a small number of people continue to leave rubbish along our roadsides and countryside.
“I will continue logging these incidents with the Council, but ultimately we need people to take responsibility for their own rubbish. Our rural roads are not dumping grounds.”
Cllr Mulcahy encouraged anyone who witnesses illegal dumping or comes across rubbish dumped in the Cappoquin area or elsewhere in West Waterford to report it so that it can be investigated and dealt with.
