The counting of votes is underway in Waterford following the local and European elections
The counting of votes cast in Friday's local and European Parliament elections is underway at the SETU Arena in Waterford.
Polling stations in Waterford and across the country closed at 10pm on Friday and the count proper will get underway this Saturday afternoon once ballot papers have been sorted and verified.
A total of 79 candidates contested the local elections in Waterford which will see 32 councillors being elected to serve on Waterford City and County Council for the next five years.
Successful candidates will be elected to one of six Local Electoral Areas on the local authority - Dungarvan (6 seats), Lismore (3 seats), Portlaw - Kilmacthomas (5 seats), Tramore - Waterford City West (6 seats), Waterford City East (6 seats) and Waterford City South (6 seats).

In the European Parliament elections, 23 candidates are hoping to secure one of the five seats in the sprawling Ireland South constituency.
The counting of those votes will begin at Nemo Rangers GAA Club in Cork at 9am on Sunday.
