RIP: Tributes pour in for 'mighty' Waterford woman remembered for her smile and spirit

Heartfelt tributes are being paid this week to Waterford woman Ina Kelly (née Russell), remembered as "a mighty woman with a great spirit for fun" following her death.

Ina, of Cannon Street and formerly of Mayor's Walk and Buttermilk Lane, also worked at the Waterford Crystal Canteen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9.

She is deeply mourned by her husband, Thomas (Tommy), daughters Gillian and Avril, and a wide circle of family, friends, and neighbours.

On her death notice on RIP.ie, Ina's family have requested that those attending her funeral wear bright clothes in her honour, as a tribute to a woman remembered for her radiant smile and warm personality.

Condolences have been pouring in online for Ina from Waterford and beyond.

One mourner shared: "I am so so sorry to hear of the passing of your wonderful Mam and Wife Ina. My deepest sympathy to you all on the loss of a wonderful lady. She was full of life and l loved all our chats at the counter over the years. She always had a smile and was never in bad form. It was a pleasure to have known her."

Another tribute described Ina as "a mighty woman with a great spirit for fun," adding: "She will be very sadly missed. Thinking of you all and all of Ina's family at this very sad time."

Others recalled happy memories of growing up around Ina.

"Fond memories of Ina growing up in St Martins Ave (Buttermilk Lane). Ina always had a beautiful smile on her face, may she rest in peace."

"Ina was such a lady, I loved having a chat with her in my nanny's. She was a wonderful neighbour and friend and she will be missed so much. May you get the best bed in heaven Ina you truly deserve it. Sleep well."

Another summed up her courage: "Ina fought a brave battle, may she rest in peace, she was a lady inside and out. Forever remembered."

Ina will repose at her home on Cannon Street on Thursday, July 10 from 4pm to 7pm, with vigil prayers and a rosary at 5.30pm.

Her Requiem Mass will take place in Ballybricken Church on Friday, July 11 at 10.30am, followed by cremation on Saturday, July 12, at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.

In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, can be made to The Oak Ward, South East Palliative Care.
