One of Ireland's most popular fiction writers is bound for Waterford with bestselling author Sheila O'Flanagan set to appear at Tramore Library later this month.
Waterford Libraries have announced that the Dublin-born author will visit on Tuesday, July 22 at 7pm, as part of their well-loved Writers at Waterford Libraries series.
O'Flanagan, whose books have sold over 8 million copies worldwide, has penned 20 bestselling novels including The Hideaway, What Happened That Night, Isobel's Wedding and Suddenly Single, alongside collections of short stories and two children's books.
O'Flanagan shared why she writes the kind of modern, relatable stories that have earned her legions of fans:
"Ireland is famed for its writers, but for me growing up most of the novels were rural in both their settings and their points of view. I wanted to read books about people like me, who lived in the city… I also wanted to read novels in which the women were the heroes of their own stories and not simply there because they were someone's wife, mother or daughter."
She's also a passionate advocate for adult literacy and helping those who discover reading later in life to find the same joy she does in books.
Waterford City & County Librarian Mary Conway, who launched the Writers at Waterford Libraries initiative in 2023, said: "Our series of writer events aims to unite readers and writers through free, accessible events in their local library branches.
"Waterford Libraries are presenting a line-up of unique and engaging voices in Irish writing and we are delighted to welcome Sheila O’Flanagan to Waterford as part of this."
The event is free, but booking is essential. People looking to attend can reserve their place by calling Tramore Library on 051 849594.
