Sandra Thompson, late of Waterford Country Market passed away this week following an illness.

'Rest now dear friend' - Tributes pour in for 'tireless' advocate for Waterford's dialysis unit

Tributes have been pouring in for the 'tireless' founding member of the Irish Kidney Association Waterford branch.

Sandra Thompson, who was instrumental in lobbying for a dialysis unit at University Hospital Waterford died on Monday, August 26 in the care of staff at Oak Ward, Southeast Palliative Care.

Among the tributes paid to Sandra on RIP.ie, one poster described her as "A lovely, quiet lady who gave so much of herself to so many different charities and organisations."

Another wrote, "She was the most selfless, intelligent, polite and giving person that I have ever known."

In May, Sandra donated a collection of toys to Waterford Treasures with some dating back over 100 years, this was one of several contributions she had made over the years to Waterford's heritage and history. 

Sandra also gifted important documents to Waterford City & County Council Archives.

Locals fondly remembered Sandra as a member of the Country Market with one poster writing: "She was a much loved member of the Country Market and kept us on our toes even up to her last day with us two weeks ago. Her dedication to everything she did will never be forgotten by those who knew her and she will be greatly missed. Rest now dear friend."

Sandra was laid to rest this Wednesday.
