A giant new mosaic in the heart of a Waterford town will be officially unveiled this Sunday, and every broken plate, chipped cup, and cracked saucer in it has a story to tell.
Dungarvan's 'Crockery Mountain', the eye-catching artwork on the wall of Movies@Dungarvan, was created by environmental artist Sean Corcoran of The Art Hand with the help of 150 volunteers from across Waterford.
Over the past months, the community has been busy donating old or damaged crockery to the project, turning sentimental keepsakes and surplus kitchenware into something extraordinary.
The finished piece measures over 12 metres wide and nearly five metres high, and contains thousands of colourful fragments, each now part of a larger picture.
It's a work that not only brightens up the town but also carries an important message about waste, reuse, and collective creativity.
The official unveiling will take place at 11am this Sunday, August 17, at Movies@Dungarvan on Richard A. Walsh Street, with special guest Duncan Stewart cutting the ribbon.
The event is part of the ACT Waterford initiative, proudly funded by Creative Ireland and managed by Calmast at SETU, in partnership with Waterford City and County Council.
