High Court told Kevin Anthony Taylor was arrested at Dublin Airport this Wednesday

A man who is on trial in the United Kingdom accused of kidnap and conspiracy to import a large amount of cocaine has been arrested at Dublin Airport.

At the High Court this Wednesday afternoon, Detective Garda Paul O'Hara told Antonia Boyle BL, for the Minister for Justice, that he executed a warrant from the UK authorities for the arrest of Kevin Anthony Taylor of Ladybank, Newcastle Upon Tyne in England.

Det Garda O'Hara said the 42-year-old is currently on trial in the UK accused of conspiracy to import and supply cocaine on dates in 2020 and that he faces a further charge of conspiracy to kidnap between April 25 and April 30, 2020.

The garda said the warrant alleges that Taylor used an encrypted mobile phone to organise the importation of a "large amount" of cocaine from Holland to the UK hidden in gas bottles.

Marc Thompson BL, for Mr Taylor, said there is no issue with the detective's identification of his client who, he said, is eager to consent to his surrender to the UK.

Mr Thompson said Taylor's trial in the UK is ongoing and in those circumstances he wishes to be surrendered at the earliest opportunity.

Ms Justice Eileen Creedon at the High Court remanded Taylor in custody to tomorrow/today (THU) for a surrender hearing.
