Irish families to be impacted as another health insurance provider confirms price rise

Vhi, which has over a million customers nationwide, previously raised its prices by an average of 7% last March
Vhi, the country’s largest health insurance provider, has announced it's to increase its insurance premiums by an average of 3% later this year.
The company, which has over a million customers nationwide, previously raised its prices by an average of 7% last March.
The latest price hike, announced this Tuesday, will take effect on October 1 2025 for new customers, or upon renewal of existing consumers' plans.
The increase will mean one of Vhi's most-popular family plans - PMI 35 13 - will rise by €178 annually upon renewal or should consumers sign up from October onwards.
Commenting on the price increases, Aaron Keogh, Managing Director of Vhi said: “The price increase is necessary as the demand for care and the cost of delivering that care continues to rise. We ensure that our members can continue to access the care that they need and, therefore, have to price accordingly.”
For those on the Advanced Care Day to Day plan, there will be a minor reduction for the family rate of €12.24 per annum. For lone children on this plan, the decrease will be €94.32 a year. However, health insurance premiums typically change twice a year.
In July, Irish Life announced an average increase of 3% for their insurance plans, and earlier this month Laya Healthcare announced an insurance increase by 4.5% on average across their plans.
