Waterford support helps Carlow win Leinster Championship promotion

Four graduates of Recreation and Sport Management at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) played a part in the Carlow senior hurling team’s win at Croke Park last weekend.

Managed by WIT sports development officer Colm Bonnar, Carlow recorded a 2-26 to 1-24 win over Westmeath in the Joe McDonagh Hurling Championship to win promotion to the Leinster Championship for 2019.

The success comes on the back of already winning promotion to Allianz Hurling League Division 1B for next season. His backroom team also consisted of WIT Sport Scholarship coordinator Alan Malone (strength and conditioning coach), WIT student support administrator Conor Phelan (hurling coach) and Timmy Hammersley (sport psychologist).

All four are graduates of Recreation and Sports Management, while Timmy Hammersley also holds an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology from WIT.
