A new painting has been added to Dungarvan Quay in County Waterford

A local artist has been praised after her artwork was added to a quay in County Waterford.

The paintings of native animals along Dungarvan Quay have been a feature of the location for a number of years.

Now, local artist Oksana Huba has had the opportunity to add to the popular paintings.

After asking for suggestions of animals for the new paintings, she has painted robins on one of the walls at the location.

In a post on Facebook, Oksana wrote: “For many people in Ireland, the robin has another very touching meaning.

“It is believed that loved ones who have left this world can sometimes send us a little sign through this bird.

“Perhaps that is why there is also an old belief that robins should never be harmed — they are under special protection.

“Legends or not, everyone can decide for themselves, but now two robins have made their home on Dungarvan Quay. I hope they bring you a little joy every time you pass by.”

The new artwork has been warmly received by many members of the local community.

One woman said: “Beautiful, can't wait to walk along with all my children and spotting and naming the animals on the walls.”

“What a beautiful story and lovely artwork! Wishing the robins a happy home on the quay,” another local resident commented.

Fine Gael councillor Damien Geoghegan has also praised Oksana for her work, describing it as “a beautiful job”.
