EXCLUSIVE: Shannon Airport say they 'have the capacity to alleviate pressure at Dublin Airport'

Ryanair calls for greater passenger allowances at regional airports during row with daa

CEO of The Shannon Airport Group Mary Considine said that Shannon Airport has "the capacity to alleviate pressure at Dublin Airport", not just for Ryanair but "for all airlines".

"We have the capacity for three million more passengers today, and capacity to grow beyond that," she stated this Tuesday morning, September 24, at the launch of Ryanair's winter services at Shannon Airport,

"We're encouraging all airlines to look at moving capacity and actually utilising the under-utilised space that's in the regional airports."

Also speaking at the launch, Ryanair's head of communications Jade Kirwan called on Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan to "pull up his socks" and expand the funding allowance under the Regional Airports Programme from one million passengers to three million passengers for Shannon and other regional airports.

"What's happening at the moment is the programme is effectively capping regional growth," Ms Kirwan said.
