Waterford's Heilbhic features on TG4's Bailte
A TG4 series visits County Waterford on this Thursday's instalment.
Ireland has over 60,000 townlands, with each one operating as an administrative centre for the wider community. In this series, Síle Nic Chonaonaigh visits townlands across the country, investigating the strong connections people have with their native places through the culture, the ways of life and the landscape.
Bailte visits the townland of Heilbhic, situated on a peninsula in the Gaeltacht of An Rinn in County Waterford, on Thursday's episode at 8.30pm.
The townland, whose name comes from Viking roots, is a vibrant and active place. Síle meets Mary Condon, whose family has been in the area for seven generations and learns of the strong fishing culture, how a new business thrives, how the community depends on its RNLI lifeboat and how a family have chosen to move back to the area to raise their family.
If you miss it on Thursday, catch it on Saturday at 7.15pm or worldwide on the TG4 player.
