Waterford’s Spraoi festival expects to welcome 50,000 people every day this weekend

Spraoi promises a fun spectacle for visitors and locals alike

Festival goers can look forward to a parade, a fireworks display, dance and more at this year’s Spraoi festival in Waterford

Activities will kick off from 4pm this Friday with a children’s show featuring parkour, dance and circus tricks at John Robert’s Square. 

Bound to be a highlight of the festivities is Now and Then - an aerial acrobatics show about the relationship between a young influencer and an elderly woman. 

DancingXCrossroads will perform contemporary dance at 9.45pm on Michael Street this Friday. Judging by the rehearsal footage, viewers will be in for an unforgettable show. 

An immersive theatre show based on Charlotte Brontë and her relationship Yorkshire moors will take place at the library on Friday (4.30pm and 6.30pm) and Saturday (2pm and 4.30pm). Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so be sure to get there early.

The Applemarket Stage and the Churchyard Stage will feature music ranging from electronic blues to a DJ set this Friday from 5pm until 11pm.

Voices and hearts will be raised on Saturday, with a performance from the Waterford High Hopes choir at 6.30pm at John Roberts Square.  

Not to be missed is the Waterford Youth Arts Teenage Kicks, which will see young bands battle it out on the Applemarket stage from 2pm-4pm on Sunday.  

The festival will close on Sunday following a parade and a fireworks display. 

There will be a number of road closures to make way for the activities. O’Connell Street, Gladstone Street, The Mall, Mall Lane, Hentrietta Street, Lady Lane, Johnstone, Parnell Street, Parade Quay and Custom House Quay will be closed off or partially closed over the course of the weekend. 

In anticipation of the festival, RTÉ Radio 1's Oliver Callan broadcast his popular show from the city on Friday morning. 

Spraoi festival is celebrating its 33rd year and will feature over 250 performers.
