Met Éireann predicts surge in Ireland temperature but there's bad news too

Spring is on its way as Met Éireann have predicted a rise in temperatures this week, but unsettled conditions are still on the horizon.

Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 14 degrees, but conditions will remain cloudy and wet, with rain showers spreading across the country from the south.

Winds however will remain breezy to moderate, with occasional dry spells expected to follow.

Conditions will remain dry over the northern half of the country for a time this Tuesday afternoon but cloud and rain in the south will continue to spread northwards through the day.

It will stay dry in northern counties until after nightfall. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds.

Tonight will be largely cloudy with outbreaks of rain spreading northwards, followed by frequent showers in Munster and south Leinster. Occasional clear spells will break through in the south. Lowest temperatures of 3 degrees in the north to 9 degrees in the south, though it will turn milder overnight, in light to moderate southerly winds.

For Wednesday morning, February 14, rain and drizzle will continue in Ulster and Connacht, gradually clearing northwards by early afternoon. Mainly dry further south with some bright intervals and a few showers.

Rain will develop in the south in the late afternoon and evening, spreading northwards later. Mild with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

On Wednesday night rain will spread northwards to all areas. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with mostly light southeast to east breezes.

Thursday morning, rain will clear to the north with sunshine and scattered showers following for the rest of the day. Highest temperatures ranging 10 to 13 degrees with mostly light variable breezes.

There will be some further showers on Thursday night. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.
