Planning permission has been granted for the demolition of an old hotel in County Waterford.

Cosmo Developments Newtown Ltd plans to redevelop the former site of the Old Tramore Hotel on Strand Street in Tramore.

The application details its proposed development, which includes the demolition of the existing hotel building.

In its place, two apartment block buildings will be constructed. The first, Block A, will consist of six three-bedroom apartments and two one-bedroom apartments.

Meanwhile, Block B will consist of three two-bedroom duplex units. A new site entrance and parking facilities are also planned.

As well as that, works will be carried out on connections to services, landscaping, retaining walls and all associated siteworks.

The former Old Tramore Hotel has been derelict for many years, with a fire causing extensive damage to the structure in 2018.

The planning application to redevelop the site was submitted by Cosmo Developments Newtown Ltd on June 10.

There was one objection to the proposed development, which raised concerns over the blocking of natural light and sound pollution.

The local resident described the planned apartment blocks as “architecturally ugly” and “totally unacceptable”.

Waterford City and County Council granted permission for the development on December 7, with 25 conditions attached.
