Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt were speaking on their podcast
A Manchester United legend has made a bizarre reference to the Waterford Gaelic football team.
Nicky Butt was speaking alongside his former United teammate Paul Scholes on their podcast ‘The Good, The Bad and The Football’.
During a recent episode, the pair were discussing their favourite sports to watch on TV. When Butt mentioned Gaelic football, Scholes told him to “f*** off”.
English comedian Paddy McGuiness, who is also a host on the show, similarly took issue with Butt’s answer.
He said: “This is a f*****g random one. Listen, you're not sitting down at home with a bag of crisps going ‘let’s have a look at the Gaelic football’.”

Scholes then asked Butt to name a Gaelic football player, to which he replied saying he didn’t know any.
However, when Scholes asked him to name a team, Butt bizarrely named Waterford. Scholes replied asking “Waterford what”, to which Butt answered “United”.
Butt also highlighted his apparent love of Aussie rules. He continued: “Saturday mornings it’s always on. NRL, Aussie rules and then Gaelic football every now and again”.
Butt’s mention of Waterford has raised eyebrows, particularly given the county’s low standing in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League.
Butt may have mixed the Gaelic football team up with Waterford FC, which was known as Waterford United from 1982 to 2016.
This appears even more likely when you consider that Butt actually managed a young Manchester United side that faced the Blues at the RSC in 2013.
