Waterford FC prospect Romeo Akachukwu played a key role in the Republic of Ireland's 2-2 draw against Italy in the UEFA European U-17 Championship Elite Round qualifying in Cyprus on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old gave Colin O'Brien's side the lead before an own goal extended Ireland's advantage.

The Italians fought back in the second half and found the net twice to secure a draw.

Fellow Blues youngster Jason Healy also represented the Boys in Green in the qualifier - playing in goal.

Ireland under-17s play Ukraine (Friday) and Cyprus (Monday) as they seek qualification for this summer's finals tournament.
