Waterford FC host Longford Town at the RSC in their first home fixture of the 2023 League of Ireland season this evening (February 24) - kick-off is at 7.45pm.
PREVIEW
The Blues got their First Division campaign off to a winning start last week thanks to a 3-0 victory over neighbours Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park. Striker Wassim Aouachria was the hero on the night as he netted a hat-trick to secure the three points for Danny Searle's side.
Tonight's opposition, Longford Town, come into the encounter on the back of a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Athlone Town last weekend.
Ahead of the game, Searle told Waterford's club website: "We were happy with the performance in Wexford but we know there’s much more to come from this group. Starting games well is important and to score twice in the opening quarter hour was the best start we could have hoped for.
"To hear the noise and see the colour around the ground made it feel like a home match and we’re delighted to give the fans something to cheer about in the opening match.
"Longford have given us some really tough games over the years so we’re expecting more of the same. They have a new manager and some good young players so we won’t be underestimating them."
