An appeal has been lodged against the decision of the local authority to grant permission for the development of 40 new homes in Dungarvan.

Waterford City and Council had granted conditional permission for construction of the new housing estate on lands at Kilminion South, Ballinroad, around 3kms outside the town Dungarvan.

However, a number of local residents who had objected to the application have now formally appealed the decision of the council to grant permission.

In their appeal to An Bord Pleanála, they raise a number of concerns about issues such as the impact on traffic and privacy and they claim the proposed development "will have a clear and obvious negative impact on all existing houses."

While acknowledging the need for housing, both nationally and in Dungarvan, they say there is an onus on the local authority to ensure that any new development "does not result in negative impact on the existing immediately adjacent dwellings," which, they submit, is not the case.

The proposed development comprises a variety of detached, semi-detached and terraced homes as well as all of the associated ground works, public lighting and landscaping.

According to An Bord Pleanála, the deadline for receipt of submissions is October 15 with case due to be decided by January 28, 2025.
