Investigations are continuing after a prisoner escaped from custody at a busy garda station earlier this week.
The man, aged in his 40s, was being held at a garda station in the Eastern Region before making his getaway on Monday evening.
While not confirming specific details of what happened, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating the escape from garda custody of a male, aged in his 40s, on Monday, September 22 2025 from a garda station in the Eastern Region. Investigations are ongoing at this time."

However, it has been reported by the Irish Independent that the man is considered to be the leader of an organised crime group which, they say, is considered to be the one of the main distributors of cocaine and cannabis in County Kilkenny.
According to reports, the man allegedly fled from the garda station on Monday evening at approximately 8:30pm through an unlocked door. It is understood that gardaí fear he may have fled to another country.
Investigations are ongoing as are efforts to locate the man.
