Second man charged over death of suspected Dublin restaurant gunman

A second man has been charged in connection with the death of a suspected gunman who was assaulted following a shooting in a Dublin restaurant on Christmas Eve.

Tristan Sherry, who was one of two suspected gunmen involved in the shooting, sustained fatal injuries after being tackled and assaulted inside the premises in Blanchardstown after the shooting.

One man has already appeared in court charged with Mr Sherry’s murder.

The second man charged is due to appear before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court on Friday morning.

The development comes on the same day gardai announced the death of the man who was shot in the initial gun attack inside Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown.

Jason Hennessy Snr, who was in his late 40s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Mr Hennessy, who was known to gardai, was treated at Dublin’s Connolly Hospital and then transferred to the city’s Mater Hospital, where he died.

A second murder investigation has been launched after Mr Hennessy’s death.

Two gunmen had entered the busy restaurant at about 8pm and opened fire.

Last week Michael Andrecut, 22, of Sheephill Avenue, Corduff, appeared at a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin charged with Mr Sherry’s murder.

A third man has also been arrested for questioning in connection with Mr Sherry’s death.

On Thursday he was still being held at a Garda station in west Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
