Motorists have been urged to slow down despite the rush to get everything in time for Christmas, with road checkpoints to be in place around the country tomorrow, Friday.

Gardaí have confirmed that December 22 will be the final National Slow Down Day of the year.

"We’ll be doing our bit so please help us by slowing down while driving," they said.

Gardaí are also armed with new speed detection equipment, which means they can detect speeding drivers from further away.
