VFI calling on Department of Enterprise to help businesses after catastrophic flooding

THE VINTERS Federation of Ireland (VFI) have called upon Simon Coveney and the Department of Enterprise to launch a support fund for business impacted in floods from Storm Babet.

VFI have stated that the catastrophic floods that impacted areas of Cork yesterday will see many pubs and business never re-open again after the water damage.

In a letter addressed to Mr.Coveney the federation stated "We know of 23 pubs that were forced to close because of the flooding. These pubs employ over 160 staff who don't know when they can return to work."

In the wake of the crisis the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste have announced a €10 million humanitarian assistance scheme for residents in the areas impacted.

The VFI are calling on the government to announce similar funding for pubs and restaurants to give the business owners some form of relief in this challenging time.
