Councillor raises concerns that 'somebody will get a slap of a car' at busy Ferrybank junction

People are worried that 'somebody will get a slap of a car' at a busy junction on the border of Kilkenny and Waterford.

That's according to Cllr Ger Frisby, who was speaking about the Abbey Road/Fountain Street junction in Ferrybank at this month's meeting of Piltown Municipal District.

Traffic flow issues in the area have intensified recently due to ongoing works on the North Quays.

"People are breaking red lights because they’re so inconsistent," Cllr Frisby said.

"It's only a matter of time before a child or somebody is knocked down."

Area Engineer Stan Cullen said that due to the nature of the works at the North Quays, 'there will be continued disruption'.

"As regards to people breaking the law and breaking lights, it needs to be reported to the guards," he said.

Cullen added that a relocation of the Abbey Road where it meets Fountain Street is coming to completion.
