Teenage boy pronounced dead after tragic crash between bus and e-scooter in Waterford

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward

Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a bus and an e-scooter that occurred at approximately 1:10am on Thursday, June 27, 2024 on the R680 Cork Road in Waterford city.

One person travelling on the e-scooter, a male youth in his teens, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another male youth in his teens who was also travelling on the e-scooter was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the bus was uninjured. He was the sole occupant of this vehicle.

The Cork Road is currently closed from the South East Technological University (SETU) to the Ring Road and a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is being conducted. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford city between 12:45am and 1:15am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
