Permission granted for major extension to two schools in Waterford city

Planning permission has been granted for a major extension to two schools in Waterford city.

The Holy Family Junior School and Our Lady of Mercy Senior Primary School on Military Road are both set to be extended as part of the development.

Three new single-storey buildings are set to be constructed, with two of these buildings catering for the Holy Family Junior School.

The first will be a special educational needs classroom, while the second will be divided into three mainstream classrooms.

A special educational needs classroom is also planned for the Our Lady of Mercy Senior Primary School.

As well as that, two fenced soft play areas, each 50m² in size, will be constructed.

In addition, new fences and gates are proposed for the playground of Our Lady of Mercy Senior Primary School.

A number of associated site and ancillary works will also be carried out.

The Holy Family Junior School caters for Junior Infants to 2nd Class, while the Our Lady of Mercy Senior Primary School is for 3rd to 6th Class.

The application was submitted by Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan on December 18.

Waterford City and County Council granted permission for the development on April 1, with eight conditions attached.
