Waterford Age Friendly Ambassador Ann Cusack proudly represented the county at the 2026 Age Friendly Ireland Ambassadors Day.
Taking place at the Rose Hotel in Tralee and hosted by Kerry County Council, proceedings were expertly compèred by Kerry ambassador, Francis Brennan.
The gathering brought together ambassadors, programme staff and local authority representatives from across the country to share ideas, experiences and inspiration around ageing well. A particular focus was on supporting an increasingly age-diverse workforce in Ireland.
It was said to be an inspirational event that truly captured the essence of the Age Friendly Programme, which is connection, collaboration and celebrating the value of people at every stage of life.

Speaking after the event, Ann Cusack said, “It is a privilege to represent Waterford as Age Friendly Ambassador and to meet so many people from across the country at this special event who are working to make Ireland a better place to grow older. Occasions like this remind us how much we can achieve when communities work together.”
Jim Farnan, Chairperson of Waterford’s Older People’s Council, also welcomed the opportunity to connect with other groups from across the country, saying, “Ambassadors’ Day is a wonderful reminder of the importance of the Age Friendly Programme and giving older people a voice to ensure their experiences and perspectives help shape our communities for the better.”
Joining Ann at the event was Jim Farnan, together with Nicola Spendlove, Programme Manager and Claire Flavin, Programme Co-ordinator from the Waterford Age Friendly team.
The Waterford delegation wishes to express their sincere thanks to Kerry County Council for hosting the welcoming and inspiring event and to the hard-working Age Friendly Ireland team at Meath County Council for organising the day.
Overall, the continued importance of supporting older people in local communities was the focal point of the encouraging event.
