Waterford Councillor appointed Peace Commissioner by Minister for Justice

Waterford Councillor, Kate O'Mahony, has announced on Facebook that she has been appointed as a Peace Commissioner by the Minister for Justice. 

As the youngest Councillor with Waterford City and County Council, Kate says she is "honoured" to share the news. 

She is also the only female Councillor in the Dungarvan LEA.

"This role will allow me to better serve the people of County Waterford - from witnessing legal documents to supporting community and civic matters. Through my advice and advocacy clinics, I see every day how important accessible and reliable support is, and this appointment gives me another way to make a difference," Cllr. O'Mahony said in the social media post.

She added that she hopes to bring a fresh perspective to local representation and she hopes that the role will make it "easier for all people, to reach out and access the support they need." 

Cllr. O'Mahony thanked the Minister and Department of Justice, saying she will undertake the duty with "integrity."
