Tallow has welcomed the announcement of the allocation of €90,000 in funding for a major flood investigation study in the town.
The purpose of the funding is to support the analysis of flooding at West Street in Tallow.
As part of the study, the causes of flooding in the area will be investigated as well as identifying possible solutions, a topographical survey, examining the flooding, preparing a flood defence options report and AA screening of a preferred scheme.
The funding which was announced this week for Waterford City and County Council under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme has been welcomed by Fine Gael TD and Minister of State John Cummins who previously raised the issue of flooding in Tallow.

Commenting on the announcement by Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) Kevin ‘boxer’ Moran, Minister Cummins said: "I witnessed first-hand the damage that was done to West Waterford during the 2023 floods. Since my election to the Dáil and appointment as Minister of State, I have worked with Minister Moran on a number of OPW projects pertaining to Waterford including this application for funding.
"It is critical that we analyse all options to project our communities from the impacts of flooding. The funding announced today will be used to investigate the landscape and allow for a flood defence report so the department and the Council can best prepare for the future.
He concluded: "I think we all unfortunately know someone who was impacted by the flooding. This funding is another step in the right direction and I will continue to work with everyone involved to ensure Waterford communities are supported."
