Dromana House in Cappoquin has been awarded €130,000 under Stream 1 of the fund
A number of heritage sites in Waterford have received Government funding for conservation and repair works under the 2025 Community Monuments Fund.
A total of €230,417 has been allocated to four projects across the county, providing vital support for the protection and upkeep of historic landmarks.
Leading the list is Dromana House in Cappoquin, which has been awarded €130,000 under Stream 1 of the fund. The striking Gothic Revival gate lodge and its surrounding landscape hold a special place in the architectural heritage of County Waterford.
Also under Stream 1, Blackfriars Abbey — one of Waterford city’s oldest and most iconic medieval ruins — is set to receive €69,454.00. This funding will go toward stabilisation and preservation works, ensuring that this important fragment of the city's monastic past is protected from further deterioration.

Under Stream 2, Dunhill Castle and Graveyard at Annestown has secured €29,963.22 for conservation planning and maintenance efforts to help support the ongoing protection of the ruins which date back to the 13th century.
The fourth project to receive funding is Woodstown - one of Ireland’s most significant Viking settlement sites. €1,000 has been allocated to fund specialist heritage engagement and community-based initiatives at the settlement which is located on the banks of the River Suir, around 5kms outside Waterford city.
The Community Monuments Fund is designed to support conservation works, help prevent further decay of important sites, and ensure they remain accessible and meaningful to local communities.
Nationally, 122 projects are to receive a total of €7.5 million under the scheme.
