ALDI and Irish Cancer Society join forces for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in Waterford

In a significant effort to drive awareness of bowel cancer, ALDI Ireland and the Irish Cancer Society (ICS) are once again joining forces for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month this April.

There are 69 diagnoses annually in Waterford alone.

The partnership aims to raise awareness about bowel cancer, promote early detection, and support those affected by the disease.

All ALDI’s own-brand toilet tissue and toilet wipes will carry information about bowel cancer to drive awareness of the disease among ALDI customers this year.

Throughout the month of April, ALDI customers can make donations to support bowel cancer awareness and research, Donations can be made to the Irish Cancer Society via QR codes displayed in-store or by visiting the Irish Cancer Society website by clicking here.

The ICS will host an information stand at the ALDI Terenure store on April 8. This stand will provide valuable information on bowel cancer symptoms, screening, and prevention for ALDI customers.

ALDI Ireland will also make a donation of €7,500 to the Irish Cancer Society. This contribution will support the Irish Cancer Society’s efforts in educating the public about bowel cancer and emphasising the importance of screening.

In 2022, ALDI partnered with the ICS to include information, including symptoms, of bowel cancer on all ALDI own-brand toilet tissue and toilet wipe products. This information will continue to feature on their packaging today, as the retailer aims to recommit its support for the ICS in its mission to drive awareness of this disease and encourage action.

Commenting on the partnership, Rachel Nugent, National Sustainability Manager at ALDI Ireland, said: “By outlining the key warning signs of bowel cancer on our packaging, we hope to reach as many people as possible and make a tangible impact in driving awareness of this disease and supporting the incredible work of the Irish Cancer Society. We are committed to supporting our communities and believe that through this partnership, we can help save lives by encouraging early detection and action.”

Kevin O’Hagan, Cancer Prevention Manager at Irish Cancer Society, added: “Bowel cancer is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. It's important that people become more aware of their bowel health and know the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer. These include persistent changes in your bowel habits, blood in your poo, unexplained weight loss, pain or bloating in your stomach and feeling very tired or weak.

"Early detection can save lives, so visit your GP if you have any worries or concerns and for those in the age bracket, please take part in BowelScreen when possible. Our collaboration with ALDI Ireland allows us to reach a wider group of people and we’re delighted to take our information stand to an ALDI store this year. This allows us to provide essential information that can make a significant difference in the fight against bowel cancer.”

People are urged everyone across the country to support Bowel Cancer Awareness Month by visiting the information stand at ALDI’s Terenure store on April 8  and making a donation via the QR code or weblink to the ALDI fundraising page on the Irish Cancer Society’s website.
