Aldi Ireland has revealed that Waterford shoppers are among the top customers in the country for their Surprise Bags of food which help prevent food waste.

The initiative by Aldi and Too Good To Go is now celebrating two years since it was first implemented. Since it began, Aldi customers have saved a massive 250,000 bags of food from going to waste which has had a substantial impact on the environment as well as saving people money on their shopping.

Aldi has said that the Ardkeen store in Waterford is the top performer in the county for the initiative. Waterford customers also saved the most bags on Sundays in October.

ALDI’s Too Good To Go Surprise Bags cost shoppers just €3.99 each and contain at least €12 worth of food which is approaching its sell by or use by date. The cost-saving initiative has been incredibly popular among its customers throughout the country.

The supermarket chain implemented the bags as they have committed to reducing their food waste by 50% by 2030.

Commenting on the initiative's second anniversary, Rachel Nugent, National Sustainability Manager at ALDI Ireland said: "We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with Too Good To Go. Saving over 250,000 Surprise Bags in the past two years is a testament to our commitment to reducing food waste and supporting our communities – this is just the beginning of the work we are determined to do.

This achievement emphasises the dedication of our team and the incredible support from our customers, who have embraced this initiative wholeheartedly. We look forward to continuing this journey and making even greater strides in the fight against food waste through this partnership."
