A busy road near Waterford Train Station will be shut for over a month and a half due to major development works.
Abbey Road will be closed and traffic will be diverted to the N29/Port road from June 28 to August 16 for "deep excavation works".
The closure is to facilitate North Quays Public Infrastructure works, which include enhanced multi-modal access routes, a public transport hub including the relocation of Waterford Train Station to the North Quays, a sustainable transport bridge, and extensive flood defence system.
The sustainable transport bridge will link the relocated train station to new walking and cycling infrastructure.
It's hoped this will reduce the reliance on private car and facilitate alternative modes of transport for those accessing the city centre.
Funding for the works comes from a public investment of €207 million including €100.6 million of Urban Regeneration and Development funding.
A further €70 million from the Department of Transport is also expected following cabinet approval.
The works have been scheduled during the school summer holidays to minimise disruption, and local access will be facilitated.
Waterford City and County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
