A total of 79 candidates will seek election to Waterford City and County Council next month
Almost 80 candidates will contest next month's local elections across Waterford city and county, it has been confirmed.
The local authority has officially published a 'Notice of Poll' following the passing of the deadline for candidates to officially register.
Commenting, Paul Johnston, Acting Director of Services with Waterford City and County Council and Local Elections Returning Officer said: “Over the course of the nomination week, we received 79 representations from candidates or their proposers, all of which have been validated."

There are 16 confirmed candidates in the Dungarven LEA, nine in the Lismore LEA, 10 in the Portlaw / Kilmacthomas LEA, 17 in Waterford City West, 12 in Waterford City East and 15 in Waterford City South.

Voters across Waterford will elect 32 councillors, aross six electoral areas, when they go to the polls on Friday, June 7.
