Focus Ireland calls for Waterford walkers for the Annual Camino De Santiago Fundraising Challenge

Focus Ireland CEO Pat Dennigan and Lorraine Toner, Head of Community Fundraising at Focus Ireland get ready for the annual Camino De Santiago fundraising challenge

Focus Ireland is thrilled to announce the launch of its annual Camino De Santiago fundraising challenge.

This year, Focus Ireland aims to gather 20 enthusiastic walkers to embark on a memorable journey along the last 115 kilometers of The Camino, from Sarria to Santiago De Compostela in Northern Spain.

For many, walking into Santiago de Compostela marks a profound milestone and is a coveted item on their bucket list. Recognizing that not everyone can commit to a month-long pilgrimage, Focus Ireland offers the opportunity to experience the final stage of The Camino while raising vital funds to combat homelessness.

Pat Dennigan, CEO of Focus Ireland, who makes annual trips to the Camino, expressed his excitement, says,

"The Camino journey is not just about the physical challenge; it's about solidarity, self-discovery, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness. It's about forging connections, finding inspiration in the shared stories of fellow pilgrims, and realising the power we have to effect change, both within ourselves and in our communities."

The seven-night trip promises an enriching experience, with five walking days covering varying distances of at least 20 kilometers each. Participants will traverse diverse terrains, including picturesque villages, tranquil forests, meandering rivers, and bustling towns, soaking in the sights, sounds, and culture of Spain along the way.

Lorraine Toner, Head of Community Fundraising at Focus Ireland, encourages individuals to seize this extraordinary opportunity to support vital services such as Family Services.

"Every kilometer walked could make a difference to the 1,916 individuals currently experiencing homelessness or the 4,000 children in emergency accommodation," she emphasises.

Participants will receive comprehensive fundraising support to achieve their goals, along with guidance and preparation tips through informative Zoom calls. Whether walking solo or with a group, the Camino De Santiago offers a transformative experience for all.

The goal of the challenge is to raise €50,000, enabling Focus Ireland to expand its reach and provide essential services where they are most needed.
