Waterford school to perform classic Disney musical next month

Luany Vitoria Silva Santos and Zach Smith will play the two lead roles.

It's that time of year again when Presentation Secondary School Waterford presents their school musical - 50 years since the first production was staged.

Disney’s High School Musical JR centres on the blossoming relationship between Troy, a high school jock, and Gabriella, the new smart girl at school. They meet on a family vacation and become attracted to each other while singing in a karaoke competition.

Rediscovering each other at school, their relationship and their surprise decision to audition together for the school show are thwarted by the school’s current leading lady, Sharpay, and Troy and Gabriella’s well-meaning friends. Finally, Gabriella and Troy find a way to be themselves and are rewarded with the lead roles in the school show.

Full of catchy songs and exciting dance routines, this musical explores issues of friendship, first love, and acceptance.

All characters are played by Presentation Secondary students and are directed by Mr Mark Scanlon with musical direction from Ms Erica Brennan. Mr Patrick Grant has been choreographing the show.

It is a whole school event with all supporting roles supplied from within the wider school community and all TY students are given a chance to be on stage.

The production is funded through school fundraising events and gives everyone a sense of pride in all their hard work.

Wishing everyone the best as preparations continue and they look forward to the show on the 5th, 6th and 7th of March.
