Davy Fitzgerald: served with speeding summons after match in Thurles

WATERFORD senior hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald told Nenagh District Court this Friday that he had a speeding summons served on him personally after a match in Thurles.

Mr Fitzgerald, with an address at Castlecrine, Sixmilebridge, was before the court for speeding at Rockforest on the M7 on September 24, 2022.

It was alleged that he had been travelling at 145km/h in a 120km/h zone.

Garda Jamie Ryan told the court that he stopped Mr Fitzgerald who gave him his details and a fixed charge penalty notice was issued.

However, in his sworn evidence, Mr Fitzgerald told Judge Elizabeth MacGrath that he had not received the fixed charge penalty notice and the first he knew of it was when he was personally served with a summons after a match in Thurles.

Garda Ryan told the judge that the reason the summons had been served personally after the match was because the original notice had been sent by registered post but had been returned.

Judge MacGrath struck out the summons on the basis of Mr Fitzgerald's evidence of having not received the fixed charge notice.
