Waterford locals encouraged to apply for climate action role at council

Waterford City and County Council is seeking applications from interested parties for the role of Climate Action Officer. 

According to an advert published on social media today (Monday February 27), the closing date for applications is Thursday March 2, 2023. 

The main responsibilities for the Climate Action Officer are as follows:

  • Assist in defining the desired values and behaviours for the local authority in facilitating climate action and articulate how these translate into actionable behaviours at all levels (behavioural change) and within all departments. 
  • Develop and assist in the roll-out of programmes and campaigns, which promote climate action amongst management, elected members and staff. 
  • To be a Green Procurement Champion. Facilitating a move to Green Procurement across all Council departments.
  • Provide support and advice to all departments on climate action related matters.
  • Support project teams and elected members in ensuring all local authority level activities are climate proofed.
  • To lead on Sustainable Travel initiatives for staff.
  • Provide assistance to the Climate Action Coordinator in developing and implementing climate action strategies, plans and policies across the local authority.
  • Provide assistance to the Climate Change Coordinator and Council departments in developing climate action projects within Waterford’s Decarbonisation Zone.
  • Support the Climate Action Coordinator and the CARO in monitoring and communicating the performance of the local authority in reaching our climate goals.
  • Work with the CARO, national government, and relevant state agencies to assist in the development and roll-out of programmes and campaigns to promote climate action to local authority staff, elected members and local authority stakeholders
  • Report on performance management systems.

Completed application forms must be emailed to recruitment@waterfordcouncil.ie clearly stating the position applied for in the subject line no later than 4pm on March 2. 

Hard Copies will not be accepted. 

Please note that amendments to the application will not be accepted after the closing date.
